Not only as an important branch of communication studies, the study of cross-cultural communication is also a new interdicipline subject. Along with the on-going globalization and the frequent interactions among economics, politics and culture, countries all around the world have placed increasing emphasis on their own cross-cultural communication. Such context proffers both imperative demands and rich resources for the study of cross-cultural communication. As the ultimate goal of all communicators and their communication activities, The causal study of the Effects of cross-cultural communication is a key issue of cross-cultural studies; this issue is of significant value to the future development of cross-cultural communication.From a communication perspective, following a case study of cross-cultural communication of Tang Dynasty, this paper will begin with an analysis of cross-cultural communication phenomena in Chinese history, seeking supports which correspond to the contemporary China's national conditions and current development situations of cross-cultural communication both theoretically and practically.First, a holistic description about the cross-cultural communication effects of Tang Dynasty will be introduced, an intensive study is made focusing on the effects and the reasons behind them, and it is then concluded that the highly success of cross-cultural communication in Tang is closely related to various internal and external factors. Among them, the coexistence conception, the unique content, the triumphant communicator, and the'leading'media are playing a great role in the internal communication; the stable political environment, the well-off economic, the highly developed technique, the open external policy, the smooth transport, and the impeccable education policy are playing a great role in the external communication. History has witnessed that cross-cultural communication is a systematic project with high complexity and comprehensiveness, not only a combination of internal and external factors, but also the joint efforts of each functional sections in the society that promote and guarantee a positive development of cross-cultural communication. In the final part, based on the experience of Tang, some approaches to improve the effects of Chinese cultural cross-cultural communication have been suggested, from the perspective of the Concept, the Content, the Subject, the Media and the Environment. They are as follows:Concept based on a culture understanding and with respect to the law of development, Content containing multiculture, Subject with talented leading character, Media integrating both traditional and burgeoning ones, Environment with economic well-off, politics stable, system regulatory and science developed.
