With the increasing competition in society, children and adolescents are under great pressure to learn from an early age and are emotionally unstable and prone to emotional distress, especially in urban areas where suicide and self-harm often occur. If they can learn to cope rationally with negative emotions,it will reduce the number of tragedies.Emotional management ability can be developed during the school age to prevent mental health problems, and having good emotion management skills will have a profound impact on their growth in the present and future adolescence. From a social work perspective,I adopted the group work intervention method, using participant observation and interview methods, and applied social learning theory and ABC theory to study the emotional management abilities of urban school-age children.I conducted a total of six group sessions to help urban school-age children with emotional distress improve their emotional management abilities and gradually develop a healthy psychological state.Subsequent analysis of the data from the pre-test and post-test questionnaires showed that the group work intervention was effective in improving the emotional management abilities of urban school-aged children. However, since the development of emotional management ability takes a long time,in order to avoid the deterioration of the group members’ emotion management skills, social workers need to follow up the service and contact the group members and their parents regularly to improve the effectiveness of the service. After the group activity,an epidemic occurred in the J community, which was closed and managed for 19 days.During this period,I maintained close contact with the group members and their parents, and paid attention to the emotional state of the group members from multiple perspectives. It was found that the group members, after learning and training in group work, were emotionally stable during the closed management period of the epidemic, and were able to apply the emotion management methods learned in the group activities to regulate their emotions and face the changes brought by the epidemic optimistically.Family conflicts did not occur. Therefore, the group work method combined with social learning theory and ABC theory can effectively help group members improve their emotional management abilities.Parents should also take responsibility for their children’s emotional management and create a harmonious family atmosphere that can help develop their children’s emotional management abilities. |
