Depression is a serious psychological problem. The research on the etiology of depression has always been the focus of psychological research. It is found that individuals are prone to depressive symptoms when they are in a state of stress or encounter stressful life events, and cognitive susceptibility is one of the important quality characteristics of depression.Based on the cognitive susceptibility model of depression, this study explored the effects and paths of perceived chronic social adversity, early maladjustment schema and self-esteem on College Students’ depression. In this study,1000 college students from 8 colleges and universities in Hunan Province were selected as subjects by random sampling(484 boys and 516 girls). They were measured by perceived chronic social adversity questionnaire(PCSAQ),Young Schema Questionnaire short form Chinese Version(YSQ-SF Chinese version),self-esteem scale(SES)and The Center for Epidemiological Studies Depression Scale(CES-D),To explore the chain mediating role of early maladjustment schema and self-esteem in the impact of social adversity perception on depression of college students.Using SPSS25.0 statistical analysis analyzed the data, and the research results found that:(1)The detection rate of depression in college students was 30.3%,and there were significant differences in gender and grade.(2)There is a significant positive correlation between College Students’ perceived chronic social adversity, early maladjustment schema and depression, and a significant negative correlation between self-esteem and depression.(3)Early maladjustment schema and self-esteem play a chain intermediary role between perceived chronic social adversity and depression of college students. Conclusion: the depression status of college students is not optimistic.Perceived chronic social adversity, early maladjustment schema and self-esteem are the influencing factors of College Students’ depression.Perceived chronic social adversity can not only directly affect the level of depression, but also indirectly lead to the occurrence of depression by activating the early maladaptive schema and reducing the level of self-esteem.Therefore,this study believes that the depression of college students can be improved by enhancing students’ adversity belief and anti frustration ability, weakening the negative impact of potential maladjustment schema on students, and improving their self-esteem.
