| Picture book teaching is a way for kindergarten teachers to use picture books as a carrier,explore the educational value contained in picture books,and organize collective activities in a planned and purposeful manner.Empathy is the ability to perceive and understand the emotions of others and take certain actions to help them.The development of empathy is conducive to the development of children’s prosocial behavior,which is an important requirement of interpersonal communication.Taking picture books as the carrier to carry out teaching activities is an effective way to meet the characteristics of children’s physical and mental development and promote the development of children’s empathy.This study first collected literature on the design and implementation of picture book teaching,empathy of large class children,and constructed a framework of relevant theoretical knowledge.Then it investigated the design and implementation of picture book teaching in a kindergarten in X County,Yancheng City,and the development status of children’s empathy,and found the following phenomena: picture book teaching activities are less frequently carried out in kindergartens Teachers lack systematic theoretical guidance for the design of picture book teaching activities,emphasize the display of educational results while neglecting the achievement of emotional goals,and have low participation of children in teaching activities,making it easy to overlook the subjectivity of children.The researchers selected high-quality picture books suitable for the development level of large class children and conducted a 5-week picture book teaching activity,and selected three picture book teaching activities for detailed recording.After each activity,the researcher analyzes the progress of the activity with collaborating teachers and kindergarten principals,and summarizes and modifies it.By means of parent questionnaires,the current situation of children’s empathy in the experimental class was investigated and analyzed.Then,after the picture book teaching activities,the empathy of children was analyzed again,in order to focus on the changes in children’s empathy before and after participating in picture book teaching.The study found that picture book teaching activities promoted the improvement of children’s empathy.After carrying out action research on the design and implementation of picture book teaching,teachers have some theoretical construction and practical guidance experience on how to scientifically and reasonably design and implement picture book teaching activities in the future,improve the ability to design and carry out picture book teaching activities,and learn relevant skills in the teaching process.Therefore,the following educational suggestions were proposed in the study: teachers should be aware of the educational value contained in picture books,design teaching activities based on the story plot and the needs of this study,focusing on two dimensions of cognitive empathy and behavioral empathy;Emphasize teacher child interaction in collective activities,and organize picture book teaching through various methods such as segmented interpretation,picture book performances,and children’s representation;Emphasize the methods of empathy training such as role-playing and role dialogue,while also paying attention to the dominant position of children in activities,and designing activities around children’s development level and interest needs. |
