Empathy is an important part of social development and an indispensable key factor in improving social interaction. As children grow older, they have a clearer understanding of themselves and are more sensitive to the emotional cognition of their peers.Under such circumstances, currently kindergartens generally lack courses related to emotional cognition and emotional management such as empathy. The preschool is a critical period for children’s social development. Therefore, scientific and efficient socialized emotion training methods are particularly important for the social development of young children. This study used the educational experimental method to investigate the effect of picture book-based empathy intervention on improving the empathy ability of kindergarten children. In this study,60 children in two kindergarten classes were randomly divided into experimental group and control group, with 30 students in each group, half male and female. The design of this empathy training program is based on Feshbach’s "Learn to Care-Empathy Training Program".The content of the training is designed in three dimensions of cognitive empathy, emotional training and behavioral training.According to the feedback from children and teachers, the effect of children’s activities on site, and the observation and analysis of individual children, this empathy training program meets the actual interests and needs of children in large classes, and is feasible for children aged 5-6.Based on the above results, the researchers also provide corresponding educational suggestions for parents and teachers to improve the empathy level of children. For kindergarten teachers,it is not only necessary to understand the impact of empathy on children’s social development, through appropriate empathy training to help children grasp the timing of the development of their empathy level, but also to improve their own level of empathy to truly understand children’s emotions. For parents,it is necessary to create a comfortable and democratic family environment for children, provide opportunities for children to communicate with their peers, and encourage children to understand the emotions of others in their interactions. |
