| In the context of "double reduction",how to better design homework has become a common concern in the field of education. However, most experts, scholars and teachers in China have only focused on how to reduce the amount of homework and compress the time students spend on homework, without considering how to improve the quality of homework. In this study,50 sixth-grade students in the researcher’s class were selected to conduct a study on the design of language homework in upper elementary school under the "double reduction" policy. The documentary method, questionnaire method, and interview method were used to investigate the changes in students and teachers after the study, analyze the effectiveness of optimizing the design of language homework, and explore strategies for designing language homework in upper elementary school. Before the start of the action research, students and parents who participated in the action research and teachers who taught upper grades in our school were randomly selected and interviewed to understand their views on the current homework in the school year. This action research was conducted in three rounds for two months. In the first round of action research, the researcher set up preparatory homework, basic homework, extension homework, and innovative homework according to the homework phasing model, and divided the four types of homework into three levels: A,B,and C.This round of action research aimed to reduce the homework burden of students by enriching the types of homework and designing homework in different levels. The second round of action research focused on the design of a large unit of homework from the perspective of "language elements" and the alignment of homework objectives with the unit’s teaching objectives. The third round of action research combined the requirements of integrated learning activities with project-based assignments, linking the content of the assignments to students’ real-life situations. After the action research,we analyzed the changes at the levels of students, teachers and parents, and found that the optimally designed language homework in upper elementary school was effective in the context of the current "double reduction",as follows: it reduced students’ homework burden, stimulated students’ interest in learning, improved students’ language performance, strengthened students’ good learning habits, improved students’ language performance, and improved students’ humanistic literacy. It also strengthens students’ good learning habits, improves their language performance, and enhances their humanistic qualities. However, due to the influence of parents’ utilitarian concept and teachers’ lack of ability to design homework, the study still has urgent problems to be solved. Finally, based on the results of the above study, the author summarizes some strategies on how to optimize the design of language homework in upper elementary school in the context of "double reduction" : clarifying homework objectives, improving homework quality, innovating homework types, and improving homework review mm evaluation,in order to provide some references for front-line teachers. |
