The impact of cancer on families and society is a growing concern. This article aims to intervene in the resilience enhancement of cancer patients’ families by case study method and semi-structured interview to collect data from cancer patients’ families and select families with low resilience as the service targets.Using Walsh’s family resilience theory framework,we used the family belief system, family organization model, and family communication process as the framework for interventions to enhance family resilience in cancer patients’ families, emphasizing the participation of the whole family to promote family adaptation and adjustment after cancer. The effectiveness of the casework within the framework of the family resilience theory in enhancing the resilience of families with cancer patients was then evaluated utilizing a scale. The results of the author’s research on family resilience of cancer patients are as follows: family resilience of cancer patients brings challenges and opportunities to families in crisis;the generation of family resilience requires multi-level intervention strategies to promote the development of family resilience;and constructive thinking of internal and external linkages should be formed in the process of applying family resilience theory. The author also reflects on the role of social workers in the whole service process, the way of solving problems, the application of family resilience theory to families with cancer patients, and the ethical dilemmas that arise in the process of practice. Finally, the author makes suggestions on improving policies related to families with cancer patients, the way social workers intervene in families with cancer patients, and the integration of resources for families with cancer patients,to continuously improve the ability of families with cancer patients to cope with risks, and further explore the path of social work intervention to enhance the resilience of families with cancer patients. |
