Garbage classification seems to be a "trivial matter",but it is related to thousands of households.It is one of the hot topics of people’s livelihood in today’s society.The implementation of garbage classification is related to the living environment of the people,the saving of resources and the level of social civilization.Community residents are the mainly responsible for garbage sorting.Improving their awareness,strengthening their ability,and promoting the formation of their behavior habits of garbage classification are the key to promoting the work of garbage classification in communities.This study takes children from a community as the starting point and aims to develop their consciousness and behaviors of garbage classification through group work.First of all,this paper investigates the community children’s awareness of classifying garbage and related behavior through observation,interview and questionnaire survey.It shows that children’s knowledge of garbage classification is insufficient,their attitudes towards garbage classification are negative and their subjective intention of garbage classification is weak.The study conduct a cause analysis from three dimensions consisting of family,community and school,so as to evaluate the need to cultivate community children’s willingness to classify garbage and behavior of garbage classification.Secondly,under the guidance of ecosystem theory and social learning theory,this paper applies the method of the group work to the development of community children’s consciousness and behavior of garbage classification.Six group service activities are designed and carried out about changing their attitude towards garbage classification,learning relevant knowledge and creating atmosphere.Those activities are mainly divided into three parts: correcting the attitude to garbage classification,popularizing the knowledge of garbage classification,and cultivating the behavior of garbage classification.Corresponding objectives were designed for each group activity and observing the performance of group members during the activity carefully.Through the use of professional methods and techniques,the group members will be motivated to achieve group goals.At the end of the six group activities,the process of activities was evaluated from three aspects: the performance of group members,the performance of social workers and the design of the group activities.The results of the six group activities are evaluated through the Questionnaire on the Classification of Domestic Wastes for Community Children and the Questionnaire on Group Satisfaction.The results show that the group objectives have been achieved,the knowledge,the attitude and behavior of the group members have been positively improved,the cultivation of the willingness and behavior of group members has made a significant achievement,and the group members are highly satisfied with the group activities.The main conclusions of this paper are as follows: first of all,ecosystem theory and social learning theory fit the development of community children’s consciousness and behavior of garbage classification.Secondly,all measurement shows that the growth group has a positive effect on the development of community children’s consciousness and behavior of garbage classification.Thirdly,the role of social workers is highly applicable to the process of the development of community children’s consciousness and behavior of garbage classification.
