| Waste classification management has been widely recognized and implemented globally, and its improvement and development rely on the joint participation of multiple social entities such as governments, enterprises, communities, social organizations, and residents, forming a concerted effort to promote it gradually.Effective participation of residents will promote waste sorting, collection and management from the source, but this is not an overnight process. The awareness, attitudes and behaviors of residents in regards to waste sorting need continuous guidance and improvement. This study conducted social work intervention research in X community of Chongqing, and collected relevant data through a pre-survey questionnaire and interview investigation. It was found that X community is facing obstacles in waste sorting, including residents having insufficient knowledge of waste sorting, inadequate attention to community propaganda, and a bias towards utilitarian guidance. These problems are actually shallow manifestations of residents’ thinking, behavior, and community participation levels.Based on the specific situation of waste sorting in X community and the problems encountered in community services, social workers used cognitive-behavioral theory and empowering theory to guide their service plan. The service was divided into three stages: awareness improvement in the early stage,behavior-oriented guidance in the middle stage, and community participation of residents in the later stage. With the help of this service, residents gradually became involved in waste sorting and management, learned more about waste sorting knowledge, and increased their environmental awareness. They also learned how to accurately differentiate waste types and correctly dispose of waste, gradually forming behavior habits that promote green community building. The waste sorting activities also helped to awaken community participation and enhance residents’ sense of ownership. However, the social work intervention in the service faces some limitations, such as weak professional service capabilities, lack of periodicity and stability. Finally, this paper proposes some exploratory suggestions for social work intervention in involving residents in community waste sorting and management, including: strengthening regular services, focusing on differentiated services, and innovating diversified services.Based on the reflection and summary of this study,it is hoped that the quality of social work intervention research can be further improved and beneficial exploration can be made for residents’ participation in community governance. |
