Network literacy is the comprehensive quality of individuals who use relevant knowledge and skills to promote their own learning and growth in online practice.Junior high school students are important participants in the online world,and having good online literacy is the key to their survival and development in the Internet environment.Cultivating and improving junior high school students’ network literacy not only helps them adapt to the development of the Internet and solve existing problems of network literacy,but also plays an important role in promoting the overall development and healthy growth of junior high school students.Studying the current situation of junior high school students’ network literacy is conducive to enriching theories related to network literacy,providing reference for educators to carry out network literacy education and effectively improving junior high school students’ network literacy.This paper mainly uses questionnaire and interview methods to survey 1308 junior high school students in Ningbo,Zhejiang Province,and select junior high school teachers,parents and students to conduct interviews.The results of the study show that,in general,the network literacy of junior high school students is at the middle to upper level.In terms of differences,junior high school students’ network literacy differed significantly in terms of overall achievement and annual family income,while no significant differences existed in terms of gender,grade level,whether they were an only child and the highest level of education of their parents.In terms of internet usage,junior high school students’ access to the internet was concentrated at the beginning of their school years,and their Internet access devices were mainly smartphones and tablet computers,with diversified purposes of Internet access.In terms of network literacy education,the effect of network literacy education is average and there is much room for improvement.Overall,the study found that the problems and causes of network literacy among junior high school students include: weak basic knowledge of the Internet and poor understanding of network literacy;low level of Internet skills and the awareness of Internet innovation needs to be improved;poor self-discipline of the Internet and the need to enhance safety awareness and ethics;and the lack of systemic nature of network literacy education and the unsatisfactory effect of education.In order to improve the network literacy of junior high school students,this study puts forward the following suggestions: establishing a correct concept of network literacy education;constructing a scientific network literacy cultivation system;creating a pattern of collaborative linkage among multiple subjects;and establishing an effective mechanism for guaranteeing network literacy.
