Since ancient times, the most important purpose for people to learn and study mathematics has been to solve practical problems. In the rapidly developing 21st century of information technology, mathematical modeling is an effective means to solve practical problems, especially in the fields of physics, chemistry, biology, and computer science, which are gradually developing and improving.Given the social demand for cultivating high school students’ mathematical application abilities, mathematical modeling has entered high school mathematics education and become a hot topic in high school mathematics teaching and the direction of future high school mathematics curriculum reform. As an effective tool for assessing high school students’ mathematical application ability, mathematical application problems are essentially mathematical modeling. The process of improving high school students’ ability to solve practical problems is actually the process of cultivating their mathematical modeling ability. In recent years, the proportion of application questions in college entrance examination questions has been increasing, and the requirements for students’ mathematical application ability have also been increasing year by year. Therefore, using the problem-solving process of application questions to improve students’ mathematical modeling ability and develop modeling teaching strategies suitable for high school mathematics classrooms has become the main problem in current high school mathematics teaching research. This article uses a questionnaire survey to understand the current situation of mathematical modeling teaching for high school students. It is found that high school students do not have an environment for learning mathematical modeling, and their understanding of mathematical modeling is single and weak. However, students have a strong desire to learn mathematical modeling, believing that learning mathematical modeling is meaningful, and are more willing to learn mathematical modeling through application problems. Therefore, this article uses literature research method combined with the teaching situation of mathematical modeling reflected in the questionnaire survey process, and proposes high school mathematical modeling teaching strategies based on problem-solving theory, emotional and cognitive interaction theory, and constructivist theory from four aspects: daily classroom teaching, practical problem situations, mathematical modeling special courses, and mathematical learning strategies, with the aim of improving students’ mathematical modeling ability.Subsequently, this article sorted and classified the mathematical models commonly used in high school mathematics application problems, carefully adapted and processed the application problems in high school mathematics textbooks and college entrance examination questions, highlighted six typical modeling application problem cases, and analyzed the teaching ideas of each case. The proposed high school mathematics modeling teaching strategy was applied to actual teaching, making high school mathematics modeling teaching develop towards a more ideal direction.
