Cultivating students’ consciousness of mathematics application and practice ability has always been the weak link of mathematics teaching in high school, and the mathematical modeling activities can play an active role in promoting students’ application ability and innovation, so it is clearly stated in the Ordinary High School Mathematics Curriculum Standard(Experimental) that the mathematical modeling should be adopted into the content of the high school mathematics curriculum, aimed at improving students’ comprehensive quality and ability. In terms of the research about the mathematical modeling activities, aimed at promoting students’ quality and ability, is the basic link of high school mathematics education research. Previous studies focused more on thinking training study, without mentioning the influence of researching dynamic mathematical modeling activities on students’ thinking development and improvement of ability. Neither study on how to form students’ ability of mathematical thinking and a system of mathematical modeling teaching has been conducted. Starting from the mathematical modeling activities, compared through various, multi-level teaching research, The research has confirmed that the mathematical modeling activities can effectively inspire students’ mathematics thinking, arouse students’ interest in learning mathematics, and promote students’ ability of solving mathematics problems.The studying issues of the research. What are factors causing high school students’ mathematics application problem-solving? What cognitive disorders will students of different levels have while taking part in the mathematical modeling activities? What are the strategies to solve the difficulties of high school students’ mathematical modeling? How to improve the efficiency of the mathematical modeling activities in the auxiliary teaching? How to reach a balance in regular teaching and mathematical modeling activities to help students overcome these difficulties and achieve the goal of improving their ability?The research is conducted in accordance with the following procedures : Sampling comparison teaching; Literature research based on research problems; Prepare questionnaire, repeated test and correction are carried out during the process; Implementation of survey, research methods include questionnaire survey and sampling test method; Data analysis and conclusion, this paper puts forward suggestions in the end.The major conclusions of this study:(1) General level and rules of high school students’ mathematics application consciousness. From the perspective of cognitive level, high school students’ mathematics application consciousness varies in levels. On the one hand, with the accumulation of mathematical knowledge, students’ mathematics application ability has a desire to practice. On the other hand, the idea of exam-oriented education has been "deeply rooted in the hearts of students", for many students, the only purpose to master mathematics knowledge is to solve mathematical problems mechanically, thus losing the basic ability to solve practical problems.(2) The improvement of students’ mathematics application ability by carrying out mathematical modeling activities. Carry out mathematical modeling teaching activities to promote students’ ability to find and fix problems, strengthen students’ sense of teamwork and cooperation, enhance the understanding of mathematics as a science.(3) The mutual influence factors of mathematical modeling activities and conventional teaching. The mathematical modeling activities can make up for the deficiency that the conventional teaching has, which only attaches great importance to thinking training, operational training, logical training but lacks the teaching soil for combining theory with practice. If the two can complement each other, it is more likely to cultivate students’ sharp observation ability in mathematics, thus enabling students to understand mathematics better in real life and enhance students’ ability to apply mathematics.Suggestions for carrying out mathematical modeling teaching. In view of students’ lack of theoretical knowledge, some mathematical modeling teaching activities can not be carried out. Some instrumental knowledge of problem solving can be appropriately added. Eliminate students’ cognitive disorder and enhance their learning interest. Choose some practical problems that are close to students’ life as researching subjects, which can stimulate students’ desire to explore the unknown. Qualified high schools should make efforts to provide a variety of teaching aids to meet the needs of mathematical modeling teaching.
