In recent years,a large number of studies have shown that non-cognitive ability of individuals in the future education, income level, and other aspects of the importance of educationist began to focus on the training of children’s non-cognitive ability. As the principal child education, parents play an important role in enhancing children’s non-cognitive ability. But at the same time, because of the difference between urban and rural development and the absence of rural parents, the development of rural children’s non-cognitive ability is hindered.Based on expectation theory, family production theory and activity theory, the paper proposes research hypotheses using survey data collected by Xi’an Jiaotong University and Southwestern University of Finance and Economics teams in Jintang County,Sichuan Province, structural equation modeling(SEM)was used to study the relationship between parents’ educational expectation and rural children’s non-cognitive ability, and to explore the mediating role of child education time investment and family education economic investment.Firstly,a descriptive analysis of parents’ educational expectations, child education investment and children’s non-cognitive ability was conducted to understand the current situation of rural children and their families.Secondly, the variables of parents’ educational expectation and their educational input are gradually introduced, and the non-cognitive ability of rural children is analyzed by multiple regression, which is supported by the preliminary data. Then,we test the direct effect of parents’ educational expectation on children’s noncognitive ability, and make a conclusion with significant and mediating effect. Finally,a stepwise regression method was used to validate the mediating effect model by introducing child education time and child education economic inputs as mediating variables.According to the results, conclusions are as following:(1)Parents’ educational expectation significantly affected the non-cognitive ability of rural children.(2)Child education time investment and economic investment played a mediating role between parents’ educational expectation and children’s non-cognitive ability.(3)the mediating effect of time investment is more significant than that of economic investment.Based on the research results, this paper puts forward some concrete suggestions from the family, school and government levels: parents should locate the educational expectation reasonably, give appropriate educational input, and cooperate with school education actively.Schools should do a good job of home-school co-operation,change parents’ educational ideas, cultivate children’s non-cognitive ability and the government should introduce and improve child education related systems and norms, strengthen parents’ educational responsibility, and promote the modernization of child education.
