Research On Role Dilemma Of Judicial Social Workers In Social Assistance And Education For Juveniles Involved In Crimes

The welfare of minors is concerned by the whole society.Effective intervention in the delinquent behavior of minors and the maintenance of their physical and mental health is related to harmony and long-term stability of society.Judicial social workers play an important role in safeguarding the rights and interests of minors.They can provide social assistance services for minors involved in crimes,such as social investigation services and supervision services.This paper focuses on the role dilemmas faced by judicial social workers in helping and teaching minors involved in crime,and give suggestions to deal with the role dilemmas.Based on the social role theory and the actual situation of the judicial social worker service project of the People’s Procuratorate of Q City,this paper uses semi-structured interview,participatory observation and other methods to analyze the current situation of the role of judicial social workers,such as the role expectation,role understanding and role practice,and puts forward the role dilemma that judicial social workers are facing.The research found that the procuratorate,social work agencies and clients have different expectations of judicial social workers,which are reasonable but also have unreasonable problems.In the process of role playing,judicial social workers will face such dilemmas as role conflict,role ambiguity and role overload,and need to deal with such problems as limited role playing space and reduced role identity.The internal factors are the unrealistic understanding of the role of judicial social workers,the lack of role playing ability,the lack of ethical reflection,and the lack of supervision and support of social work institutions.The external factors are the difference of expectation of different subjects,the lack of existing institutional support for judicial social work,the particularity of the clients,and the inadequate promotion of unified authoritative standards.This paper puts forward some measures and suggestions,focus on responding to the specific things judicial social workers can do in practice,hoping to put forward targeted suggestions for all participants in social assistance services for juveniles involved in crimes,and jointly deal with the role dilemma faced by social workers.Therefore,judicial social workers will be able to play their roles better and achieve the goal of helping juveniles get back on the right path.
