In response to the serious workload of students,education authorities have issued some policies to "reduce the burden" and "increase the efficiency".Homework burden is the most common phenomenon in the schoolwork burden.With the growth of primary school students’ age,their homework burden will gradually increase,and even some primary school students suffer from physical and mental problems because of the homework burden.The mathematics homework of high-grade in primary schools is an important part of teaching,which is the extensiveness and complement of classroom instruction,and plays an important role in cultivating students’ science competency,improving their thinking ability and innovation ability.Therefore,it is still a subject worthy of further study in order to understand the present condition of mathematics assignment of high-grade in elementary schools and put forward optimization strategies to reduce the homework burden of primary school students.This thesis takes the questionnaire and interview as research methods.The questionnaire and interview outline are compiled on the basis of sorting out and analyzing the relevant literature.Then,mathematics teachers and students from high-grade(grade 5 and 6)in C primary school of the H city are invited as the research participants.The questionnaire survey was conducted from the five dimensions—the function,type,content,correction and evaluation of mathematics homework.Then,the data of the questionnaire were input,sorted out and analyzed,linked with deep interviews with teachers and parents,it uncovers the present condition of mathematics assignment of high-grade in elementary schools.The major problems are as follows.The function of mathematics homework is single.Great importance is attached to written homework instead of practical work.Pertinence is lacked in the way of homework assignment.The correction of mathematics is single.Mathematics homework evaluation lacks diversity.In view of the above problems,the reasons are analyzed from the three aspects—society,school and teachers.the over-pursuit of knowledge and achievement under the background of examoriented education.Schools lack of systematic management and evaluation system of homework.Mathematics teachers lack sufficient understanding of the function of homework.Mathematics teachers lay less emphasis on the homework design and evaluation.According to the investigation results and analysis of the reasons,this paper proposes enhancing strategies from four fields: first,pay attention to the development function of mathematics homework,stimulate students’ interests in mathematics homework,promote students’ internalization of knowledge.Second,improve the practicability of mathematics homework,assign various types of mathematics homework,forbid assigning punitive mathematics homework.Third,the assignment should be layered according to the difficulty and amount of homework.Fourthly,teachers should praise students as much as possible.The diversification of evaluation subjects and evaluation standards.It is hoped that this article can help reduce mathematics homework burden of students in high-grade of primary schools,enhance the primary school students’ mathematics key competencies and interests in learning mathematics,and achieve the optimal purpose of mathematics homework.
