In recent years, parental education anxiety has gradually replaced parental stress as a dynamic concept, becoming a term that more visually describes the psychological behavior of parents regarding their children’s learning and education.Nowadays, parental education anxiety,as a social problem and a "social disease",reflects the mental dilemma faced by parents in general and has evolved into a "collective anxiety" that pervades society.Excessive educational anxiety has a negative impact on parents themselves, their children and the family micro-system,and it has become an urgent social need to alleviate parental educational anxiety.Based on a social work professional perspective, this study used questionnaires,semi-structured interviews, and participant observation to gain a preliminary understanding of the educational anxiety of some first and second year parents in Q Middle School in Chongqing, after combing through the relevant literature.Combined with the relevant interview data, the author learned that external stimulus events trigger parents’ educational anxiety, and the constant descent into negative emotions is due to parents’ unclear educational goals, biased educational cognition, and parents’ lack of reflective awareness.Based on the above survey, the author grasped the actual needs of the parents and designed six sessions of group activities with cognitive-behavioral theory and social support theory as theoretical guides, and incorporated group work skills into them. From the process and outcome evaluations, the parents’ educational anxiety was alleviated after the group activities, and the parents established a certain social support system among themselves and were able to form an alliance to seek emotional and other support and help together. The study concludes with a summary and reflection that group work as a professional form of social work service provides parents with a supportive and learning group environment. The group activities designed based on theoretical guidance and parents’ needs were highly relevant, and the process and outcome evaluations showed that parents’ educational anxiety was relieved to different degrees, achieving good intervention effects and the goals set for the group work.In addition, the author reflected on the research design, the use of intervention methods, and the practical experience of social workers, and made suggestions and recommendations for alleviating parents’ educational anxiety from three dimensions: schools, social workers, and the community, for reference and reference in schools, community work with parents, and future research. |
