In 2021,the State Council issued the “Opinions on Further Reducing the Homework Burden and Extracurricular Training Burden(Double Reduction)of Compulsory Education Students”.Grounded on the actual implementation of this policy at three primary schools of H City under the background of “double reduction”,this study conducts a survey on the current situation of homework management in senior grades of primary schools, systematically analyzes the problems in homework management and their causes, and finally proposes countermeasures for optimization from a multi-dimensional perspective. This study is conducted combining research methods, including literature research, questionnaire survey and interview. To start with, two versions of questionnaire named“Research into Homework Management Issues of Senior Grades in Primary Schools”are designed for students and teachers,respectively.310 teachers and 306 students from three primary schools in H City are chosen as survey respondents. Results of the questionnaire for students and teachers are both analyzed statically using SPSS25.0from four students’ dimensions(time distribution, perception of difficulty, degree of hard-work,and cognition of assessment)and four teachers’ dimensions(homework design, homework completion, homework feedback and homework evaluation). The statistical analysis results shed light on the current situation of homework management among senior grades in primary schools and major problems, such as insufficient personalization in homework design, weak communication in homework implementation, insufficient diversity in homework evaluation methods, short periodicity of homework feedback time, and lack of completeness in homework management system.Causes of these problems are mainly reflected in the following aspects. At the school level, emphasis on homework management, support for school homework management policies, and linkage between after-school homework and after-school services are lacking. At the teacher level, cognition of homework, communication between teachers of different subjects, and a complete homework marking and feedback system are lacking. At the student level, awareness of students’ independent homework management, enthusiasm for completing homework, and timely summary and reflection on after-school homework lacking.Based on this, this study proposes optimization strategies for homework management of senior grades.First, schools should attach more importance to school management, improve home management systems, and explore efficient after-class service modes and approaches.Second, teachers should strengthen their cognition of homework, enhance their experience communication across subjects, and improve the efficiency of homework marking and feedback.Third, students should foster the awareness of independent homework management, give full play to students’ initiative in completing homework, and improve their ability to summarize and reflect on homework. It is expected that these countermeasures can help improve the quality of homework management for senior grades of primary schools, enable teachers to give timely feedback on students’ homework, and improve the efficiency of homework management. At the same time, these countermeasures can,to some extent, contribute to alleviating the homework burden of senior grades of primary schools, and also improve their self-management and self-learning abilities.
