Case Work Intervention Of "Old Drifters" In Urban Community Adaptation

Due to the continuous acceleration of urbanization in China,the flow of population is becoming increasingly frequent and often accompanied by the characteristics of familial mobility.Many parents who are entering or about to enter the elderly stage voluntarily or forcibly relocate to the city where their children are located due to the need to take care of their children and grandchildren.These special groups,known as the "old drifters",migrate to unfamiliar environments,they face varying degrees of difficulties in adapting to urban communities,for example,increased loneliness,alienation from various soft and hard facilities in the new community,interruption of social interaction behavior,and tense intergenerational relationships.Although some scholars have paid attention to the adaptation issues of "old drifters" urban communities brought about by the transformation of their living environment,there are still many research flaws in the heterogeneity within the "old drifters" group and effective ways to solve the adaptation difficulties of the "old drifters"urban community.This study takes the "old drifters" in L community of N city as the research object,firstly,with the help of semi-structured interview materials and various literature materials related to the community,an overall description of the "old drifters" in the community and their adaptation status is provided,On this basis,select a typical elderly drifter with community adaptation issues for professional intervention,hoping to address the special issues of community adaptation through individual social work methods.Secondly,according to the social adaptation theory,"urban community adaptation" is mainly operated into four dimensions:helping clients vent negative emotions,improving family intergenerational emotional relations,getting familiar with the living environment and rebuilding social networks.Interviews and scales were used to estimate clients’ problems and needs,and according to the task-centered model,clients were helped to cope with the special problems brought about by urban community adaptation,and 11 cases were specifically served.At the same time,the method of combing process evaluation and result evaluation of case service is used to evaluate the effectiveness of case intervention in urban community adaptation of "old drifters".The final evaluation results show that case social work intervention in the urban community adaptation of "old drifters" has achieved good results,according to the task-centered model in a short time to help clients vent negative emotions,improve the urban community adaptation cognition;Be familiar with and learn to use community hardware and software facilities;Build new social support by actively participating in community activities and developing interests;In addition,in the dimension of family intergenerational emotion,family intergenerational relationship also presents a kind of intergenerational contradictory emotion,parents and children show both unity and contradiction of family intergenerational relationship.In particular,the main family structure,the elderly’s life focus is around one child,and they are eager to provide help and support for their children.Therefore,through practical intervention to help clients ease the intergenerational emotional relationship with their children,improve the clients’ happiness of urban community life and better adapt to urban community life.
