Post-secondary education streaming refers to a social activity whereby students are introduced to different types of education in general high schools or vocational schools on the basis of their academic examination results, academic aptitude tests, personal wishes and family conditions, after graduating from junior high school and completing their nine-year compulsory education. The introduction of post-junior secondary education is of great importance in promoting productive development, accelerating the democratisation of society, implementing the principle of equity in education, increasing the level of universal access to nine-year compulsory education and optimising the structure of human resources training.Due to the excessive pursuit of diversion in the process of implementing post-secondary education diversion, this has resulted in the times posing new challenges to compulsory education, especially in terms of the far-reaching impact on the reform of teaching methods in compulsory education secondary schools.Firstly, the compulsory implementation of the education streaming policy means that competition at the compulsory secondary level has intensified, which inevitably has an impact on the guiding ideology of teaching and learning, whether teachers adhere to a policy-centred or student-centred teaching process, whether they turn the school into a "paradise" for students’ growth or an "arena for personal struggle".The question of whether to turn the school into a "playground for students’ growth" or an "arena for personal struggle" has become a new issue that has to be considered.Secondly, the "general-vocational equivalence" means that half of the students will go to vocational high schools, which will lead to a greater differentiation of students at the junior high school level, thus putting new demands on teaching methods. This is a new problem that must be faced. This article uses literature research, comparative research, multivariate analysis to explore the impact of post-secondary education streaming on the reform of teaching methods in compulsory secondary schools. The full paper is divided into five parts.Part Ⅰ: Introduction. It mainly introduces the source of the problem of this study, the significance of the study, the current situation of domestic and international research, the content of the study and the research methodology.Part Ⅱ: A theoretical study of the impact of post-secondary education streaming on the reform of teaching methods in secondary schools. The main focus is on the meaning of post-secondary education streaming and the reform of secondary school teaching methods, while the theoretical basis of post-secondary education streaming affecting the reform of secondary school teaching methods is sorted out,and on the basis of the theory, the different orientations of post-secondary education streaming affecting the reform of secondary school teaching methods are analyzed from two perspectives: the analytical dimension and the value objective.Part Ⅲ: A study on the impact of post-secondary education streaming on the reform of teaching methods in secondary schools abroad. It mainly introduces the advanced reform experiences of three developed capitalist countries, the United States,Britain and Germany, and analyses their typical practices at the levels of the state, schools and teachers and students respectively,so as to provide experiences that can be drawn on for the reform of teaching methods in secondary schools affected by post-secondary education streaming in China.Part Ⅳ:Analysis of the current situation of post-secondary education streaming affecting the reform of teaching methods in secondary schools. One is to outline the subjective effectiveness, policy effectiveness and practical effectiveness of post-secondary educational streaming on the reform of teaching methods in secondary schools from a panoramic perspective;the second is to look at the constraints of educational streaming on the reform of teaching methods in secondary schools from a practical perspective. The third is an analysis of the mechanism of post-secondary educational streaming affecting the reform of teaching methods in secondary schools from the symptomatic causes.Part Ⅴ: Path options for post-secondary education streaming for reforming teaching methods in secondary schools.Suggestions are made from the perspectives of three main bodies: the government, schools and teachers and students. The government strengthens macro-regulation and transforms its functions;schools maintain benign assistance and implement differentiated stratified teaching;teachers and students actively collaborate to help and establish scientific education and teaching concepts. The study concluded several points: firstly, the quality of secondary education should be balanced with internal and external streaming, and teachers and students should participate in the reform in a collaborative manner;secondly, there should be a two-way stream of universal and vocational education, with differentiated and tiered teaching;thirdly, the state, schools and teachers and students should work in tandem to ensure that the quality and equity of the stream are equally important, and to promote a rational reform of teaching methods in secondary schools.
