| The Second Opium War occupies an important place in China’s modern history,serving as a bridge between the past and the present.The Second Opium War involved more countries,lasted longer and had more far-reaching effects.Since the founding of New China,there have been significant changes to the writing of the Second Opium War in junior history textbooks,and it is useful to have a deeper understanding of the content of these textbooks and to benefit from their teaching.Since the founding of New China,junior history textbooks have been written in the style of chapters,topics and “themes + chronology”.A longitudinal analysis of the structural changes in the setting and placement of the chapters of the Second Opium War in textbooks,and a comprehensive review of the changes in the introduction,sidebars and post-exercises in the supporting sections of the text,reveals that the Second Opium War has been written in junior history textbooks since the founding of New China in a progressively more scientific and rational style,with a variety of placements,consistent titles and multiple forms of writing.The causes of the Second Opium War are gradually simplified in junior history textbooks of Over seventy years,and the process of the war is clearly described,with different emphasis on the effects of the war.A look at the changes in the writing of the Second Opium War in junior history textbooks since the founding of New China has yielded a number of insights.Firstly,the structure and content of junior history textbooks have gradually changed and adapted in the same direction over the past seven decades,secondly,the content of the Second Opium War in junior history textbooks has gradually diversified and matured,and finally,the choice of content in textbooks is closely related to the national context and has been profoundly influenced by the historical view of history.Finally,the choice of content in textbooks is closely related to the national context and is profoundly influenced by the historical perspective of historiography and the guiding ideology of compiling textbooks.The second opium war is a major issue in the history textbooks of junior high schools,and the second opium war in junior high school history textbooks should be written in the light of the new national context,the practicalities of junior high school history teaching,and the latest theoretical hotspots. |
