Due to the influence of traditional education,the teaching of English writing has been a major problem for teachers for many years,and it is also a hot topic in academic research.How to improve students’ English writing ability has always been a concern for teachers.English writing instruction occupies a vital role in the teaching of English throughout the junior high school stage.The writing skills of the students directly reflect the proficiency in the basic knowledge of English.Writing ability is also a form of language expression of students’ ability to apply in English,communication ability and ability to express.As a result,writing in English is particularly important to junior high school students.The Ministry of Education’s Compulsory Education English Curriculum Standard(2011 Edition)document sets out clear requirements for the writing ability and learning style of junior high school students.In other words,students should be able to write in English in accordance with Level5.The reform of the English curriculum emphasizes that the curriculum begins with student interests,life experiences and cognition level.It advocates experiential practice,participation in cooperative and communicative learning styles,and develops students’ comprehensive language skills,so that the process of language learning becomes a process of independent learning of students.It can be seen that there is a close relationship between students’ writing ability and teachers’ teaching methods.With the deepening of the reform of basic English teaching,new teaching methods continue to emerge.The author applies the Project-Based Learning to the teaching of English writing to explore and verify its effect.This research attempts to answer the following two questions:1.How do teachers use Project-Based Learning to teach writing in English in junior high school?2.What impact does the Project-Based Learning have on the English writing performance of junior high school students?The participants of this research are students from Class 1 and Class 2 of Grade 8 in the No.1 Middle School of Nong’an County.The author conducted one semester study on the two classes.The experimental class uses the Project-Based Learning,and the control class uses the traditional teaching method.The author takes the method of questionnaire surveys,tests and interviews,and analyzes the data obtained by the above methods.Through the collection and analysis of data,the author found that the application of Project-Based Learning in writing classrooms has increased students’ interest in writing.It improves students’ participation in writing class and students’ writing scores,and improves the ability to think and write even more.
