Research On People’s Daily’s Report On Women’s Day(1995-2022)

It has been nearly a century since the first public commemoration of Women’s Day in China.The United Nations Fourth World Conference on Women held in Beijing in1995 was a milestone in the history of women’s movement.Therefore,this paper takes1995 as a starting point in the study of People’s Daily’s report on Women’s Day."People’s Daily" plays an irreplaceable mainstream role in China’s media,so the study of "March eighth" Women’s Day report of "People’s Daily" has its special significance.The report of People’s Daily on Women’s Day(1995-2022)can be divided into three levels: high,medium and low.Firstly,the number of reports fluctuated greatly in the high-level framework,and the reporting genre was dominated by news,with uneven distribution of reporting topics.Secondly,in the middle-level frame,the news sources are mainly media reporters and specialized agencies,and the coverage of the report page covers a wide range.In the text frame,the main core facts of the report are mainly stated.Finally,from the low-level frame,it can be seen that the images included in the report are mainly female portraits,the title presentation form is mainly a single main title,and the tone of the report is mainly neutral and objective.On the whole,the People’s Daily reported in 28 years of Women’s day follows the UN fourth world conference on women theme of "equality,development and peace",and presents the following characteristics: one is to follow era change,close to the life of women reported typical theme,formed around the international working women’s day reported features of politics;Secondly,the authoritative statement of the core facts is characterized by extensive factual reports and credible information released by authoritative discourse.Third,news headlines covering female representative words,objective statements and positive publicity have formed the characteristics of positive women’s Day reports highlighting women."People’s Daily" can make good use of its own advantages to Women’s Day comprehensive report,but there are some shortcomings in the report,lack of "employment,health and education" advocated by the fourth World Conference on Women.First of all,there is a lack of attention to the status quo of women.The degree of attention varies greatly with different periods and the lack of problem orientation.Secondly,some reports are "homogenized",with stereotyped reports on typical female role models,low volume of folk discourse and lack of innovation in news planning.Finally,the description of women is single,verbal rhetoric and other expressive techniques are repeated,positive reports are one-sided and lack of comprehensive innovative reports.While giving full play to its platform advantages,People’s Daily should expand its reporting topics,focus on highlighting the subject of female news discourse,presenting all elements of news events in a complete manner,paying attention to the output of opinions on women’s problems,and promoting interaction with readers through media integration such as "central kitchen".In this way,we can guarantee the long-term development of women’s Day report,correctly guide gender public opinion,provide reference for other mainstream media’s women’s Day report,and jointly construct the pattern of gender equality in mass media.
