The Research On Taiwan-Related Reports Of People’s Daily From The Frame Perspective(2016.5-2022.5)

As the Party newspaper of the CPC Central Committee,the People’s Daily’s reports on Taiwan since its establishment in 1946 have reflected the mainstream tone of mainland media’s Taiwan-related reports.It is also a barometer of the changes in the mainland’s Taiwan policies and cross-Straits relations,and an important window for mainland people to understand Taiwan.This paper conducts a full sample study on 824 Taiwan-related reports of People’s Daily from May 2016 to May 2022.Firstly,it makes a statistical analysis of their reporting genres,themes,figures and keynote,and summarizes the overall characteristics and changes of People’s Daily’s Taiwan-related reports.Its main characteristics are as follows: mainly news report,overall objective,but have subjective tendency to choose the report object;Criticizing "Taiwan independence" forces at home and abroad and praising those who support Chinese reunification and the One-China principle;The report on Taiwan’s politics,economy,society,Taiwan people and the scenery of Treasure Island showed a positive trend.Secondly,on the basis of content analysis,according to Professor Zang Guoren’s framework theory,this paper extracts and analyzes the framework of People’s Daily’s Taiwan-related reporting at high,middle and low levels.The high-level framework mainly studies the main issues of People’s Daily’s Taiwan-related reporting.The middle level frame studies its narrative structure;The low-level framework mainly analyzes the news report text from sentence pattern,rhetoric and style.It is found that the main topics of People’s Daily’s Taiwan-related reports are "anti-independence promotion under the principle of ’One China’","pro-positive Taiwan social reports","knowledge popularization: the beautiful and rich Treasure Island of Taiwan",etc.The characteristics of the narrative structure are mainly from the perspective of limited knowledge,discourse construction tends to be patterned,language and text mode is mainly used,and the overall reporting tends to be positive.The characteristics of news texts are that the headlines are dominated by single sentences and declarative sentences.Citation is the most commonly used figure of speech,which adopts such style strategies as plain and splendid,solemn and humorous,implicit and bright,abundant and concise.Finally,through the quantitative and qualitative analysis of People’s Daily’s Taiwan-related reports,it is found that the existing problems include: the high-level framework of the reporting topic is concentrated,the number of Taiwan local reports is insufficient;In terms of the middle-level framework,there is a lack of local interviews and reports on Taiwan,the image of Taiwan people is too vague,and in terms of the lower-level,there is little soft news,serious style,little number of picture reports,and less readability and interest,etc.,and corresponding improvement suggestions are put forward,such as enriching the subject matter of the report and showing the diverse Taiwan society.In-depth field interviews,increasing the use of pictures,presenting a complete picture of Taiwan society,increasing soft news and detailed reports,etc.
