| With the comprehensive launch and promotion of the rural revitalization strategy, the integration process of urban and rural development in China has been accelerated, the relationship between urban and rural areas has entered a new stage of integration and complementarity, and the flow pattern of urban and rural elements has also seen new changes. In recent years, there has been a phenomenon of "reverse urbanization" in many places in China, with urban residents moving their residences, businesses, and consumption to the villages and surrounding small towns. In response to this phenomenon, when attending the deliberations of the Guangdong delegation of the National People’s Congress on 7 March 2018,General Secretary Xi mentioned that "both urbanization and counter-urbanization should be promoted" and stressed that "the rural areas should not decline in the process of urbanization, but complement and supplement each other",which makes the phenomenon of urban dwellers moving to the countryside even more meaningful to study.Through the literature review, the researcher believes that the concept of Western "rural gentrification" can provide some theoretical support for the study of urban dwellers moving to the countryside for consumption and entrepreneurship. The concept describes the entry of the Western middle class into the countryside and the transformation of rural houses, facilities, and landscapes, resulting in the stratification of rural social structures and the transformation of rural space and culture in many ways. Therefore, when conducting relevant research in China,it is necessary to critically analyze the theory of "rural gentrification".On this basis, the research will explore a research path of "rural classisation" that can avoid the negative effects of "rural gentrification" in western countries and promote the revitalization of Chinese rural areas and realize the common prosperity of urban and rural areas, considering China’s land system and relevant policies.Research shows that attracted by the beautiful ecological environment and traditional culture of the villages as well as the capital "investment puddle" and investment opportunities, urban middle-income groups will go to live and invest in the villages, which can drive the economic development of the villages, increase the disposable income of villagers, and realize the revitalization of the villages while solving the problems of lack of talents, capital, and technology. The collective land ownership system and effective rural governance in China can ensure that villagers can obtain capital gains and protect their interests from encroachment in the process of "rural gentrification",thus achieving a win-win situation of common prosperity and rural classisation. It is important to emphasize that, unlike Western "rural gentrification," the cognitive framework of this study is not only aimed at satisfying the needs of urban middle-income groups to settle or vacation in the countryside, and their pursuit of ecological and rural living, nor is it merely a way to achieve high returns on their investments in low-rent rural areas. It is more important to encourage the urban middle-income group to invest in the countryside to gain investment income and help rural revitalization, drive the development of rural areas, promote local employment, and increase villagers’ income. |
