"Women hold up half the sky".With the deep transformation of rural society and the implementation of rural revitalization strategy,the phenomenon of women’s participation in rural governance is increasingly common,and there is even a trend of feminization of village cadres in some villages.The proportion of female village cadres is not only an important indicator to measure the development of rural grassroots democracy,but also related to the concrete results of the implementation of rural revitalization strategy.At present,the overall proportion of female village cadres in rural areas of China is still at a low level.However,in the new round of election of rural areas in the suburbs of Shanghai,the number of female village cadres ranks the first in the country.This phenomenon prompts the author to think about what factors contribute to women’s choice of village cadres and what dynamic mechanism is behind the choice of female village cadres.This paper focuses on the influence of female village cadres on the performance of village governance.Reviewing the existing literature,we can see that there are few studies on the career choice of female village cadres at present,but the practice shows that women are playing an increasingly important positive role in rural grassroots governance.Therefore,studying the dynamic mechanism of female village cadres’ career choice has important theoretical and practical significance to better understand the process of female career choice and the motivation behind it,improve the level of grassroots democracy in rural areas and promote rural revitalization.In view of this,this paper takes J Town,Fengxian District,Shanghai,as a typical case,combines the political,economic,social and cultural characteristics of rural villages in the suburbs of Shanghai,cites social gender theory and career choice theory in sociology,and builds a state-society-individual three-dimensional analysis framework according to the unique characteristics of village cadres’ careers and key areas affecting the career choice of female village cadres.Research methods such as observation method and interview method are used to collect relevant data,so as to explore the dynamic mechanism of female village cadres’ career choice,so as to reveal the complex factors and multidimensional aspects in the process of female career choice.On this basis,the regular understanding of the logic of female village cadres’ career choice is formed,and the development space of social gender theory and career choice theory is further expanded.The study found that the motivations of female village cadres’ career choice mainly include state intervention,social support and personal response.The three concerns are different but interrelated and play a role together.To be specific,driven by the national forces,the modernization transformation of rural governance model and the modernization and innovation of village cadres’ career management mechanism have changed the long-standing traditional"gender gap" in village politics.Top-down government intervention has broken the gender separation between public and private fields in the village field and reconstructed the occupational gender types of village cadres.It opened a new space for women to enter the village politics;Under the support of social structure,a social support system for female village cadres with social structure support,social network support and social environment support as the core is constructed based on gender,status and role,which reshapes women’s expectations for the career development of village cadres and to some extent promotes the career choice of female village cadres.In terms of personal life choice,the occupation of village cadres meets the internal needs of female subjects such as caring for their families,leisure longing and career pursuit,balances the relationship between family,life and work,and conforms to women’s own career interest orientation,thus stimulating the internal motivation in the selection process of female village cadres’ career.This paper believes that the key reason why rural communities in the case show the trend of feminization of village cadres and the appearance of harmonious career development of male and female cadres lies in the top-down institutional arrangement of the country,the molding of structural forces under the village changes and the self-balance of female village cadres,namely,system boost,social support,subject consideration.The three build a corresponding dynamic mechanism according to the matching dimensions of occupational gender type,career development expectation and career interest orientation in female career choice,so that more and more women will be attracted to the village cadre career as their ideal career choice.
