| By constructing a near-future world which filled with dark urban landscapes, highly advanced technological achievements and "cyborg",cyberpunk film explores the crisis between the rapid development of technology and existence of natural human life.Through the lens of body narratives and the function of the body in film narratives, this study examines how the portrayal of body in cyberpunk film reflect the film’s theme of post-human identity crisis. The study finds that cyberpunk films combine the human body with machines by different means through the portrayal of characters represented by cyborg, and thus reflect on the value, status, and nature of human existence after the intervening natural forms of lives. At the same time, these Cyborgs, who are often the protagonists of the film, provide the impetus for the narrative to move forward by rebelling against the established social order imposed on their bodies.By constructing different types of narrative spaces through the characters’ different physical access to space, cyberpunk films ultimately question whether the enhancement and simulation of bodily perception by modern technology threatens the reality of human existence, and thus call for a post-human social order that can accommodate diverse post-human bodies and multiple social spaces. |
