| The foreign-oriented Chinese dictionary is an important tool for non-native learners of Chinese,and it is also an important reference book for teachers in teaching Chinese as a foreign language.In recent years,with the development of teaching Chinese as a foreign language,foreign-oriented Chinese dictionaries have gradually received attention,and many representative dictionaries have appeared,but at present,these dictionaries are not well accepted by learners,and there are still many problems.This thesis chooses two popular foreign-oriented Chinese dictionary,The Commercial Press Learner’s Dictionary of Contemporary Chinese and A Chinese Dictionary for Learners and Teachers,and takes the measure words in them as the research objects to explore the characteristics and deficiencies of the compilation of this type of words.It uses corpus analysis and comparative analysis in the exploration,and the analysis mainly focuses on word collection,explanation and matching example.The main research findings are as follows:In terms of word collection,the two dictionaries Learner’s Dictionary and Teaching and Learning do not fully include the measure words in the Graded Word List for Chinese Characters and Vocabulary,and there are different degrees of omission.In terms of explanation,the general parameters of the explanation in the two dictionaries are complete,but both dictionaries lack the word frequency,a very helpful element in vocabulary learning.Explanatory Paraphrase is the most important way of explanation in the two dictionaries.Learner’s Dictionary also uses word explanations and illustrations to explain the meaning,and Teaching and Learning includes English explanation as well.In addition,the words used in the explanation in both dictionaries are often of difficulty level.In terms of matching examples,both Learner’s Dictionary and Teaching and Learning have limited matching examples for some measure words.Learner’s Dictionary mainly uses "phrase examples + sentence examples" whereas Teaching and Learning mainly "sentence examples",and the arrangement of phrase examples and sentence examples is confusing.The scope of the words used in the two dictionaries is basically controlled at the intermediate level or below,but there are also some words beyond the Graded Word List for Chinese Characters and Vocabulary.In view of the problems of the two dictionaries,this thesis puts forward the following suggestions: First,it is better to rely on authoritative vocabulary lists and corpora to determine word collection.Second,in terms of explanation,the scope of the words used for explanation should be controlled within primary and intermediate levels;supplementary information such as synonyms,words of similarity and frequent misusage should be added;word for word explanation should be avoided as much as possible.Third,in terms of matching examples,it is better to increase the number of matching examples for some measure words with both phrase examples and sentence examples,and replace words of high difficulty with primary and intermediate vocabulary to control the language difficulty of the matching examples.Through the research on the measure words in Learner’s Dictionary and Teaching and Learning,this thesis hopes to provide suggestions for the revision of the two dictionaries,and promote the teaching and learning of measure words,and also to provide a reference for the compilation of foreign-oriented Chinese dictionaries in the future. |
