The Influence Of Cost Form And Social Responsibility On The Third Party Punishment Under The Unfair Situation

Third party punishment plays an important role in maintaining social fairness and justice,but "punishing evil and promoting good" is always likely to be retaliated against.For the consideration of risk avoidance and safety trend,individuals will reduce the punishment for those who violate social norms,which leads to the phenomenon of "not doing what is just".This study takes cost form and social responsibility as the starting point to observe the changes of punishment cost and punishment intensity of individuals with different social responsibility in the two forms.To enhance the enthusiasm of citizens to participate in maintaining public order and good customs and to achieve social equity.In order to explore the impact of cost form and social responsibility on the punishment behavior of the third party when an individual encounters an unfair event,this study takes undergraduates of a university in Shandong province as the object.In this study,two experiments were used the dictator game paradigm.And they were conducted to explore the impact of cost form and social responsibility on third-party punishment in unfair situations.In experiment 1,5(unfair situation:0:100/10:90/20:80/30:70/40:60)× 2(cost form: payment/retaliation)× 2(social responsibility: high/low)three-factor mixed experimental design was used to explore the influence of cost form and social responsibility on third-party punishment.In experiment 2,5(unfair situation: 0:100/10:90/20:80/30:70/40:60)×2(cost of retaliation: high/low)×2(social responsibility: high/low)mixed experimental design was used to explore whether different cost of retaliation and social responsibility had a cost effect on third-party punishment in unfair situation.The results of experiment 1 showed that the main effect of unfair situation was significant.The main effect of the cost form was significant,and there was a significant difference between the punishment intensity of the third party in the payment cost form and the retaliation cost form.The main effect of social responsibility was significant,and there was significant difference between individuals with high social responsibility and those with low social responsibility.The interaction between cost form and unfair situation was significant.The interaction between social responsibility and unfair situation was significant.There is no interaction between the three.The results of experiment 2 showed that the main effect of unfair situation was significant.The main effect of retaliation cost was not significant.The main effect of social responsibility was significant;There was no interaction between retaliation cost and unfair situation.The interaction between social responsibility and unfair situation was significant.There was no interaction between the three.The conclusions based on the experimental results are as follows:(1)Third party punishment increased with the increase of the degree of unfairness;Third party punishment intensity of individuals with high social responsibility was significantly higher than that of individuals with low social responsibility.The punishment intensity of third party in the form of payment cost was higher than that in the form of retaliation cost.(2)For individuals with high social responsibility,there was no significant difference in third party punishment intensity between the form of payment cost and the form of retaliation cost.For individuals with low social responsibility,the punishment intensity of third party in the form of payment cost was higher than that in the form of retaliation cost.(3)For individuals with high social responsibility,the punishment intensity of the third party was unchanged and higher than that of those with low social responsibility.Individuals with low sense of social responsibility and third party punishment were lower than those with low level of retaliation.This study found that the impact of social responsibility on third-party punishment is different under different cost forms,and it also shows different changes under different revenge intensities.It provides an important scientific basis for the long-term stability of society,the construction of a harmonious society,the promotion of public order and good customs,and the recruitment and use of talents in enterprises and institutions.
