| Reading teaching is a crucial part of senior high school English teaching,and developing students’ reading ability is one of the important goals of senior high school English teaching.However,the current status of English reading teaching is still not optimistic.Most teachers continue to dominate the classroom by analyzing the meaning of the article sentence by sentence and explaining the grammatical and lexical knowledge,while students only passively complete the reading tasks designed by educators,which results in low students’ engagement and motivation in the study process.Therefore,how to change the present situation of high school English reading teaching and enhance students’ reading ability has become a vital issue in the field of English teaching.The “Reading Circle” model is different from the traditional teaching model,which is a student-oriented,cooperative,and autonomous learning mode with students in the form of groups.This research is based on theories such as cooperative learning,The “Reading Circle” model was applied to the English reading classroom of a senior class(12)of the Second Middle School of Anhui Province,L City,in a three-round action research for 17 weeks.This paper mainly answers three questions:(1)Can the application of “Reading Circle” model promote students’ interest in English reading?(2)Can the application of “Reading Circle” model improve students’ attitudes toward reading in English?(3)Can the application of “Reading Circle” model effectively enhance students’ English reading performance?In this research,questionnaires,interviews,and papers are considered as research tools.The research method of the questionnaire,interview,reading test and classroom observation was used,and the results of the pre-and post-test papers and questionnaires were analyzed with SPSS software,and the results of the pre-and post-interviews were compared to draw conclusions.It is found that:(1)The application of the “Reading Circle” model has significantly improved students’ interest in reading English.(2)The application of the “Reading Circle” model improves students’ reading attitudes.(3)The application of the “Reading Circle”model helps students’ reading performance improve effectively.Therefore,the use of the “Reading Circle” model in high school English classrooms has a positive effect on high school English reading teaching.However,there are shortcomings in this study:the length of the study is short,the sample size is small,and the teaching resources used are limited.At the end of the paper,it mentions about the educational implications of this study and the outlook of the “Reading Circle” model. |
