Reading,as one of the five basic skills of English learning,is an important means for students to obtain knowledge and information, and it is also the main input method of English language learning(Wang qiang,2006).It is also the basis and premise of other language skills. It plays an important role in senior high school English teaching. The English Curriculum Standards for Senior High Schools(2017 Edition,2020 revision)further refines the core literacy of English subjects, and advocates the majority of English teachers to implement the educational goals of English subjects by practicing the "activity view of English learning".As a new teaching model, the "reading circle" model has attracted wide attention and been used more and more in foreign language teaching."Reading circle" model is a teaching mode in which participants complete their learning tasks according to their roles playing, discussing, communicating and cooperating within the group, sharing reading results, and finally complete text reading. Therefore, the study intends to use natural teaching conditions to carry out quasi-teaching experiment research in the teaching process. And the correlation between English reading level and thinking quality in core literacy of English subjects. Therefore, this paper proposes the following research questions:(1)Can "reading circle" model applied in the reading of English teaching in senior high schools help improve students’ reading proficiency?(2)Can "reading circle" model applied in the reading of English teaching in senior high schools help improve students’ thinking quality in core literacy of English subject? From the perspective of logical thinking, critical thinking and creative thinking.Research found:(1)The implementation of "reading circle" mode in senior high school English reading class can effectively improve students’ reading level. The "reading circle" mode can stimulate students’ interest in learning English and exercise their ability to use English flexibly. The scientific character design of "reading circle" model can not only enrich students’ background knowledge, but also help students understand the reading text more thoroughly and accurately,so it plays a positive role in improving their reading level.(2)The implementation of "reading circle" mode in high school English reading class can effectively promote the development of students’ thinking quality."Reading circle" is a teaching model that integrates reading, thinking, questioning and discussion, which can improve students’ thinking quality.Questioning is the beginning of students’ thinking and an important way to cultivate students’ thinking. The process of discussing the questions is also a process of cultivating critical thinking ability.According to the above research results, the author believes that applying the "reading circle" model to high school English class can improve students’ reading ability and thinking quality. The author puts forward the following three teaching suggestions: Teachers should delve into the teaching materials as much as possible, screen the texts, and choose the narration-oriented materials as the reading materials in the "reading circle" mode.Teachers should help students assign "reading circle" mode roles, and give more encouragement and help to students in the early stage of forming a reading group. In the discussion, teachers should pay attention to the efficiency of discussion, and pay attention to the recovery and inspection of the role task list,so as to make teaching evaluation of students’ reading with the mode of "reading circle".However, the study still has some shortcomings such as small sample size and short teaching experiment time, which need to be further improved.
