With the advent of the era of core literacy and the promotion of the new curriculum reform,students’ reading literacy is paying more and more attention to the field of education.In academia,the traditional "reading ability" is being replaced by "reading literacy".However,due to the pressure of examinations,reading class in Senior High school is still "governed" by teacher rather than "student-centred",so the current state of students’ English reading literacy is not optimistic.The author is eager to change the current situation through daily teaching practice.This study attempts to test the feasibility and effectiveness of "reading circle" model in improving the English reading literacy of Senior High students by implementing it in action research,and to provide empirical basis and reference for effectively carrying out this model.The author researched the status quo of students’ English reading literacy with the help of questionnaires and interviews between students and teachers.Then based on the research findings,the author made a detailed action research plan and carried out three rounds of "reading circle" teaching practices in two classes of a Senior High school in Binzhou City.Through a comparative analysis of the pre and post-test data from the questionnaires and test papers as well as the results of the students’ interviews,the impacts of the "reading circle" model on the English reading literacy was explored.Research questions include:(1)Can the "reading circle" mode improve the English reading ability of Senior High school students?(2)What is the influence of the "reading circle" mode on the cultivation of the English reading character of Senior High school students?The results show that:(1)"reading circle" mode can enhance English reading ability of Senior High school students.Students’ English reading comprehension grades have improved significantly;the decoding ability,language knowledge,reading comprehension,expressive ability and cultural awareness are all improved.(2)"reading circle" mode has a positive impact on the cultivation of English reading character of Senior High school students.Specifically,students gradually develop good reading habits and the frequency and volume of reading remains steady,and their interests in English reading are aroused and gain an active reading experience.This study confirmed that the "reading circle" model can help students improve the English reading literacy,which has certain referential significance for the English reading teaching in Senior High school.
