| English Curriculum Standards for General Senior High Schools(2017)puts forward the overall goal of cultivating students’ core competence,including cultivating students’ language ability,cultural awareness,thinking quality and learning ability.Reading ability is one of the core elements of language ability.Therefore,the cultivation of students’ reading ability is very important.However,the present teaching of English reading in senior high school is still teacher-centered,and students are passive in English learning and their English reading ability is weak.Therefore,effective teaching methods are needed to improve students’ English reading ability.The present study aims to solve the current problems in English reading teaching,explore the impact of the literature circle model on senior high school students’ English reading ability,and test the feasibility and effectiveness of the literary circle model on improving senior high school students’ English reading ability.The main research questions are:(1)What are the effects of literature circle model on senior high school students’ extracting and summarizing ability?(2)What are the effects of literature circle model on senior high school students’ analyzing cause-and-effect relationship ability?(3)What are the effects of literature circle model on senior high school students’ reasoning and judging ability?In this study,40 students from Class 8,Grade 2 of a senior high school in Shenyang are selected as the research subjects,and an action research of English reading teaching based on the literature circle model was carried out for three months.Test,interview and reflective journal are used to collect the relevant data of these students’ English reading ability changes,and Excel and SPSS are used to collect and analyze the data.The results of the study show that the literature circle model has a positive effect on improving high school students’ extracting and summarizing ability,analyzing cause-and-effect relationship ability and reasoning and judging ability in English reading.Through the analysis of test scores,it is found that the level of students’ reasoning and judging ability is improved the most,and the level of analysis causal ability is still not high.The present study has changed the former teacher-centered reading teaching model in the class,cultivated the students’ awareness of cooperative learning and improved the students’ English reading ability by implementing English reading teaching based on literature circle model. |
