| Personal growth initiative(PGI)refers to individuals’ tendency to improve and perfect themselves intentionally and consciously.Under the current practice of high school career education in China,students generally lack active self-growth motivation and are hard to be "awakened".As a result,many of them suffer from inadequate completion of career construction.Therefore,it is of great importance for promoting high school students’ career construction and enhancing the level of career education to figure out ways of improving personal growth initiative.This study introduces personal growth initiative into career construction theory and explores its influence mechanism on high school students’ career construction.What’s more,the intervention effect of PGI-based career curriculum is studied on high school students’ personal growth initiative and career construction.In study 1,Career Construction Model of Adaptation(CCMA)was employed as theoretical foundation,and the Adolescent’ Personal Growth Initiative Scale(APGIS),the Student Career Construction Inventory(SCCI),the Career Adapt-Abilities Scale ChinaForm(CAAS-CF),and the Academic Adjustment Questionnaire(AAQ)were used to investigate and analyze 1094 high school students.Study 1 not only reported the status quo of 4 variables(including personal growth initiative,career construction,career adaptability,and academic adjustment)and their differences on demographic dimension,but also analyzed the correlation between these variables and established a model to explore the influence of personal growth initiative on career construction,the mediating effect of career adaptability and the moderating effect of academic adjustment.Based on the results of study 1,study 2 selected 105 grade one high school students in 2 classes.These students were divided into experimental group(n=52)and control group(n=53).PGI-based career courses were performed on the students in the experimental group for 8 times,while regular courses were performed on the students in the control group.The results of the Adolescent’ Personal Growth Initiative Scale(APGIS)and the Student Career Construction Inventory(SCCI)was assessed in the first and last week of the course intervention.Chronological differences are analyzed to verify the effectiveness of course intervention.Results showed that:(1)Personal growth initiative had a significant positive impact on career construction of high school students;(2)Career adaptability mediated the relationship between personal growth initiative and career construction;(3)Academic adjustment modulated both the direct effect and the second half of the mediation effect of the process of "personal growth initiative-career adaptability-career construction";(4)The scores of personal growth initiative and career construction in the experimental group were significantly higher than those in the control group after the intervention.Findings suggests that,high school students’ personal growth initiative influences career construction by comprehending the mediating effects of career adaptability,while academic adjustment plays a moderating role.PGI-based career courses have a certain intervention effect on improving high school students’ personal growth initiative and career construction. |
