Personal growth initiative refers to the process of growth and development in which people consciously take action to continually make themselves better and become better people.Students with high personal growth initiative will push themselves to become better.This study aims to develop a measurement tool for personal growth initiative of junior high school students based on local junior high school students,investigate the current situation and characteristics of personal growth initiative of junior high school students,and explore the path of personal growth initiative on learning engagement,academic self-efficacy,and learning burnout,as well as provide a reference intervention plan for substantially improving personal growth initiative of junior high school students.This study contains the following four parts.Study 1,developing a personal growth initiative questionnaire for junior high school students;Study 2,investigating and analyzing the current situation and characteristics of junior high school students’ personal growth initiative;Study 3,exploring the relationship between junior high school students’ personal growth initiative and learning engagement,academic self-efficacy,and learning burnout;Study 4,a group counseling intervention study to enhance junior high school students’ personal growth initiative.The results of this study are as follows:(1)The junior high school personal growth initiative questionnaire contains 17 questions in 4 dimensions: growth awareness,growth plan,growth energy,and growth action,with a cumulative variance contribution rate of 59.906%.The questionnaire has good measurement indicators and is suitable as a measurement tool for assessing junior high school students’ personal growth initiative.(2)The personal growth initiative of junior high school students is generally in the middle to upper level.The mean score of the growth energy dimension was the highest and the mean score of the growth plan dimension was the lowest.Significant differences existed between the overall scale and the dimensions in terms of whether or not they were class officers.There were differences in the growth energy dimension by grade level.(3)A significant correlation was found between personal growth initiative and academic engagement,academic self-efficacy,and academic burnout in junior high school students.The personal growth initiative of junior high school students directly influenced junior high school students’ learning burnout,and also indirectly influenced junior high school students’ learning burnout through learning engagement and academic self-efficacy.(4)Group counseling can significantly improve junior high school students’ personal growth initiative and its dimensions,and can also indirectly influence students’ learning engagement,academic self-efficacy,and academic burnout by improving the level of personal growth initiative,which verifies the effectiveness of the design and operation of this group counseling program.Conclusion: The self-administered personal growth initiative questionnaire for junior high school students in this study met the measurement index.The personal growth initiative of junior high school students was at a moderate to high level,and was significantly correlated with learning engagement,academic self-efficacy,and learning burnout.Group counseling can significantly increase the level of personal growth initiative of junior high school students.
