"Reformulation" is an important technique in consecutive interpreting.Consecutive interpretation should not be a word-for-word translation of the original text, but the product of the interpreter’s understanding of the information of the original text with the help of notes. The purpose of this paper is to discuss the technique of "Reformulation" from the perspective of Chinese-English consecutive interpretation. This paper first summarizes previous studies on "Reformulation" and summarizes the classification and definition of "Reformulation",as well as the significance of this technique for English Chinese consecutive interpreting. Then the paper analyzes the application of this technique in the actual interpretation process with the case of a mock conference on "The Challenges and Innovations of the Medical Reform in China" in which the author participated as an interpreter. The paper analyzes the application of this technique in the actual interpretation process from four aspects, namely, the "interpretation of culture-related words" technique, the "simplification" technique the "complementary meaning" technique, and the "logical organization" technique. After that, this paper proposes ways to address the problems arising from "Reformulation" from two phases: the input and preliminary understanding and the information formation and output phases. Finally, the paper proposes three practice methods that interpreters can use: First, monolingual interpretation that can improve the ability of listening and understanding.Second, react when hearing logical transitions. The third one is to reflect on interpreter’s performance of sight translation. The last one is to draw mindmaps after interpreting.Hopefully, this case study will provide some references for Chinese-English consecutive interpreting and help interpreters who have the same problem as the author with some ideas to solve the problem and deliver information more efficiently and accurately.
