| In the context of a new era,governments at all levels in China use a variety of promotion tools to attract foreign investment.The White Paper on Tax Doing-Business Environment,a type of publicity material introducing local government tax reform and its accomplishments,is a crucial component of promoting the investment environment and attracting foreign investment,and translators charged with translating such publicity materials have a major role as a communication bridge.This thesis is a case study on the English translation of 2021 Shanghai White Paper on Tax Doing-Business Environment,a book published by the Shanghai Municipal Tax Service.Throughout the analysis of the first and final translation script and referring to the feedback from client,the thesis concluded that the problems of message delivery in government publicity materials include expressions with Chinese characteristics,slogans with political agendas,and lengthy sentences.The thesis also suggests some appropriate translation strategies to convey messages,aiming to produce a translation that satisfies audience expectations,bridges cultural gaps,and closely resembles the English narrative structure,which can successfully raise the quality of translation,and increase the propaganda impact of government publicity materials.It is expected that this thesis will offer a helpful guidance for the translation of similar Chinese publicity texts in the future. |
