| This report is based on the translation task of Chapters 6 to 8 and the conclusion of Coevolutionary Pragmatism: Approaches and Impacts of China-Africa Economic Cooperation, which focuses on the reality of economic cooperation and development between China and African countries,as a way to demonstrate that China’s pragmatism has had a positive impact and has contributed to the development of both China and Africa. The source text is a text on international relations with plenty of description and narrative as well as different views of interviewees and scholars from China and other countries. The expressions are richly layered, and it makes the translation task tricky.Since each type of process and circumstance plays critical roles in the information, views and attitudinal stance conveyed by the source text, how to achieve the same effects in the translation and restore the real situation of China-Africa cooperation is the main focus and challenge the translator faces. With equivalent political translation effects as its standard, this report analyzes the transitivity in the source text, summarizes translation problems and proposes solutions. Thus major translation problems are tackled by adopting translation methods and skills such as liberal translation, recreation, addition, omission and shift to achieve equivalent effects. With the completion of this translation task, the translator has accumulated knowledge and terms about China-Africa cooperation.Besides, the translator has done a systematic study of the transitivity theory and has gained some experience in solving relevant translation problems, and it is hoped to offer some reference for future translation with similar translation problems. |
