A Report On The Translation Of The Routledge Handbook Of Conference Interpreting (Chapter6-7)

This is a report on the translation of chapters 6 and 7 of The Routledge Handbook of Conference Interpreting(published in 2021)edited by Michaela Albl-Mikasa and Elisabet Tiselius,namely Conference Interpreting at Press Conferences and Media Conference Interpreting respectively.The book gives a general picture of conference interpreting,including conference settings,functions,interpreter-mediated roles,etc.The translated version of the source text enables Chinese readers to learn about conference interpreting and provides interpreting beginners with possible breaking points.This report is divided into five parts: Part One is the translation project description,including project background,objectives and significance.Part Two is the background of the source text,including the author’s introduction,the main contents of the source text and the syntactical features of the source text.Part Three introduces the theoretical basis of the report,which is the Skopos theory.Part Four is about translation difficulties and corresponding solutions.Part Five concludes with the lessons,experiences,and unsolved problems in the translation project.The translation difficulties lie in the translation of abstract words and compound-complex sentences.Under the guidance of Skopos theory,following the skopos rule,the author adopts explanation and addition in the translation of abstract words;and following the coherent rule,the author adopts conversion and division in the translation of compound-complex sentences.By doing so,the author would like to deliver a translated version with accurate and coherent content.
