Since the founding of the People’s Republic of China,students’ schoolwork burden has always been a perennial problem in the field of education.So the country does a lot of work on it.As an important part of the schoolwork burden,the homework burden is related to homework design.Quality education advocates taking homework as a carrier,highlighting the dominant position of students,and emphasizing giving play to students’ individual advantages in homework design to meet students’ personalized development needs.Therefore,this study integrates the concept of differentiated instruction into the junior high school English homework design,and explores the existing problems in the homework design,and puts forward principles,strategies and specific methods of differential design.Based on the practical problems and theoretical analysis,textual analysis and the methods of questionnaire and interview are adopted to explore how to design junior high school English homework from the concept of differential instruction.This study conducted questionnaires and interviews with some teachers and students of Grade 7 in Mianyang M school.The result shows the following problems with the current homework: limited goals lacking pertinence for students’ personalized development;one-sided contents which ignore the students’ multiple intelligence and zone of proximal development;the single form which is difficult to take care of the cognitive experience and style of students;the lack of evaluation which fails to realize the functionality and effectiveness of homework.In view of the above problems,based on the theory of multiple intelligence,Blooms’ taxonomy educational objectives and the zone of proximal development,this study puts forward principles,framework and strategies of junior high school English homework design from the concept of differentiated instruction.Three principles are the principle of differentiation,the principle of optimizing combination and the principle of adapting to development.Four strategies are implementing the "double reduction",and clarifying the concept of homework design;practicing the precise strategy,and encouraging the flexibility and personality of homework content;broadening the scope of homework ability cultivation,and innovating homework form;improving the timely feedback mechanism,and realizing the differentiation and diversification of homework evaluation.Four specific methods are to stimulate learning motivation,and design the differentiation of junior high school English homework’s subjects;identify the zone of proximal development,and design the differentiation of junior high school English homework’s difficulty;make good use of multiple intelligence,and design the differentiation of junior high school English homework’s content and types;understand the cognitive style,and make the optional or independent design of junior high school English homework.And this study finally gives specific differential design cases to provide some help for the teaching practice and reform of English education in junior high school.
