| Since the beginning of the new century,Ge Fei has successively published The Jiangnan Trilogy, and won the MAO Dun Literature Prize in 2015.The widespread use of metaphor is a distinctive feature of the Jiangnan Trilogy, and the novel is all metaphorical from naming, image, narrative and story. In terms of naming, the novel mainly adopts two ways of homophonic and allusion to establish the metaphor of the names of the characters, which specifically points to the character, identity and fate of the characters. The titles and titles of some chapters use allusions and ancient poems to complete the metaphorical construction of naming, specifically pointing to the theme of novels and social reality. In terms of images, plants, space and dreams are the three dominant images of novels. The plant images of peony, purple, water lily and the fate of the characters represent the fate of the characters. The spatial image of isolated island appears repeatedly in the novel and is a metaphor of the spiritual dilemma of the characters.Through the writing of The Huajiashe,it represents the paradox of the utopia;the projection and metaphor of the reality, and the dream is also the unconscious behavior of the heart of the characters. In the narrative,"vacancy" and "repetition" are the two major narrative ways of the trilogy, and formally speaking, this is a kind of narrative technology. In terms of content, this technology may be closer to existence itself and more insight into the secrets behind the surface. The "vacancy" in the novel implies the original vacancy of existence, which is a metaphorical understanding of reality;"repetition" comes from his thinking of life, implying the fate of characters and the repetition of history. In this sense, the form is the content. In terms of stories, first of all,the Jiangnan Trilogy describes the historical reality of the 1911 Revolution, the 1950 s to 1960 s and the new century, which expresses the centennial historical reality of China on the whole.Secondly, the novel creates a group of inappropriate intellectuals and constructs a "intellectual-loser" pedigree,so as to metaphor the embarrassing situation and spiritual dilemma of intellectuals since the 20 th century.Thirdly, the utopia ideal of several generations is the focus of the novel, which forms a certain metaphorical relationship with the modernization process of China in the past hundred years.Metaphor has always been an important existence in Gefei’s novels, and the metaphor in The Jiangnan Trilogy is the continuation of Gefei’s early works. At the same time, compared with the vanguard period, the metaphor in the trilogy is more poetic, which is related to the deep influence of Chinese traditional literary culture. |
