| Ge Fei, a contemporary pioneer writer, has written A Charming Face, Dream for Peach Garden, and the Disillusion of Utopia three novels successively from 2004 to 2011, in which the characters and plots have developed sequentially and continually in Pu Ji, Mei city and other cities in Jiang Nan area. Therefore, they are called the Jiang Nan Trilogy. The trilogy demonstrates the change and transition from the process of text construction to the discovery and analysis of social survival. In an easy and vivacious way, Ge Fei has showed the generation history and social landscape from the Qing dynasty to the new century, depicting the pursuit and disillusion of Utopia of three generations of Lu xiumi, Tan gongda, and Tan duanwu under different historical backgrounds. It describes the loneliness of an ancient nation in the pursuit of new birth during the generations.The thesis focuses on the study of Jiangnan Trilogy. It falls into four main parts, including text similarities, artistic techniques, spiritual implication, and modern meaning in addition to introduction and conclusion. The first part illustrates the common characteristics of "Jiangnan" area, the history description of three generations and the continuous destiny of main characters, based on which the writer analyzes the coherence and continuity of the text of Jiangnan Trilogy.The second part chooses and analyzes the poems and special image in the text, and deeply illustrates them in the perspective of modern western theory and modern techniques of text analysis in narrative studies. In addition, it has researches the artistic techniques of integration of tradition and modernism of Jiangnan Trilogy.The third part discusses the image "island" to express a person’s survival and spiritual dilemma, analyzes the pursuit and break of the utopia dreams, and the way of living of people in spiritual dilemma. At the same time, it systematically analyzes and illustrates people’ spiritual and self-surpass in Jiangnan Trilogy.The fourth part studies Ge Fei’s mature change of writing style, and his meaning and value of writing to literature. The thesis tries to connect these three works and studies the meaning and value of utopia dreams which is much mentioned in Jiangnan Trilogy, in a macroscopic view. Through this way, the writer tends to know Ge Fei’s thought about history, epoch, and culture, and warm care for the destiny and living anxiety of the intellectual. |
