A four-sutra twisted-loop seal gold quadrilateral continuous monokini(HRM: 55)excavated from a female burial site in Huarong County,Yueyang City,Hunan Province, was used as the object of study for cultural research and conservation and restoration studies. In the cultural research section, three aspects of the single coat are analysed: the form, fabric and decorative motifs, and through comparative research it is concluded that the form of this southern costume from the late Song and early Yuan dynasties was borrowed from the Mongolian nomadic robe design. The pattern features are a mixture of the plum blossom pattern popular during the Song dynasty and the nomadic pattern arrangement in the form of gold decoration and loose hitching. It is clear that the costume of the late Song and early Yuan dynasties was characterised by the inheritance of costume culture in the southern region, with a clear manifestation of multiculturalism. This section provides theoretical and practical implications for the conservation and restoration studies that follow. The research on the conservation and restoration of single garments is divided into three steps, the theoretical preparation of the restoration of cultural relics(including the detection and analysis of information related to single garments, the digital collection of disease information, and the analysis of countermeasures),the restoration process of the cultural relics themselves, and the preventive conservation of cultural relics at a later stage. In the theoretical preparation, experimental and documentary research has led to the understanding that the monocoat is made of silk, that the tissue structure is the four warp twists, and that the decorative technique is the pinning of gold in gold printing. The collection of the disease was combined with comparative analysis of the materials, fibre swelling tests and spotting tests to select the materials suitable for this ontological restoration. The material was selected through a combination of comparative analysis, fibre swelling tests and spotting tests, and suitable preventive conservation recommendations were made based on the literature and actual conditions.During the restoration process, the parts of the restoration of the silk artefacts that need attention are shown. Finally, the experience and restoration ideas of the case conservation restoration are summarised and applied to the brown ground auspicious clouds patterned sandwich robe(HRM: 45),brown ground peony patterned sandwich quilt(HRM: 36)and brown ground two warp grosgrain sandwich skirt(HRM: 24)of the same tomb, with good final results.Based on a range of conservation and restoration work,it is argued that the conservation and restoration of silk relics in China is characterised by high numbers, difficulty and cost,a wide gap in conservation and restoration philosophy and the difficulties of conservation and restoration of silk relics in small and medium-sized museums.
