| This is a Chinese-to-English translation report based on the source text(ST)of The History of National Southwest Associated University: Peking,Tsinghua, and Nankai from 1937 to 1946.The National Southwest Associated University(NSAU)Alumni Association in Beijing collaborated in the compilation of the book. The stories of Peking University,Tsinghua University, and Nankai University, which relocated from Beiping(now Beijing)to Changsha and later to Kunming, are primarily told in Chapter 2 and Chapter 3.The ST authentically depicts the pursuit of dedication and knowledge of NASU’s teachers and students under extraordinary tough circumstances. They were fearless in the face of adversity and dedicated to serving the nation. The spirit of the National Southwest Associated University is a precious quality.Given this valuable spirit, the ST has its practical value for translation.Under the guidance of the “Comprehension,Expression, and Adaptation”(CEA)Framework proposed by Professor Li Changshuan, the translator analyzes the ST with concrete cases.Comprehension is achieved with the help of background information, context, and parallel texts.Expression is achieved by using explicit references, restructuring unbalanced sentences, and modifying the structure of lengthy sentences, and adaptation is achieved with the help of omission and conversion. The research on the C-E translation of the history of the National Southwest Associated University is rare. This translation practice report, which is guided by the “Comprehension,Expression, and Adaptation”(CEA)Framework, aims to enhance the translator’s translation of this particular type of text by analyzing and resolving some difficulties encountered in the translation of The History of National Southwest Associated University: Peking,Tsinghua, and Nankai from 1937 to 1946.The translator hopes that this translation report will serve as a resource for future research on the National Southwestern Associated University. |
