| Promoting close economic and cultural exchanges is the trend of the world today.With increasing cultural exchanges between China and other countries,book introduction has also flourished,in which informative texts account for a large proportion.The book IBM involved in this report belongs to informative text,describing IBM’s development history.As the translation project was completed by means of the “MT+PE” approach,this report discusses and analyzes how Li Changshuan’s framework of“Comprehension,Expression and Adaptation” guided the post-editing process.Comprehension means that translators should fully understand the source text both at macro and micro levels.Giving consideration to the translation purpose,linguistic and cultural differences,and the interests of all parties involved in social activities,translators will choose the most suitable expressions.At the same time,as a bridge of communication,translators are supposed to apply adaptation properly in accordance with content and expression habits rather than pursue mechanical translation.Starting from these three points,this report analyzes from the aspects of comprehending background from a macro prospective and linguistic knowledge from a micro one,avoiding translationese and ambiguity,and adopting translation strategies such as addition and restructuring.In the case study,the translated versions by machine,myself and my supervisor are listed so as to make contrastive analysis and learn how PE improve the translation quality step by step,thus providing some references.MT can help us understand the source text quickly in most cases,and in some cases,it also has some brilliant points,but there still are still many mistakes,so accurate and a high-quality target text with improved quality and elegance will not be produced without PE.In particular,full post-editing is essential when translating a book for publication.Through the practice of this translation project,this report summarizes the errors in machine translation,aiming to provide some reference and suggestions for future human post-editors and make some contributions to future post-editing,especially for projects of book translation. |
