A Report On Simulated Simultaneous Interpreting Of Kobe Bryant’s TV Interview From The Perspective Of Eco-translatology

In October 2021,after a nearly six-month delay,the COP15 Biodiversity Conference was successfully held in Kunming.It was a momentous victory and a collaborative effort of humanity to protect biodiversity amidst the rampant global spread of the COVID-19 pandemic.Currently,natural environments are experiencing increasingly severe destruction,human beings are more concerned with conseving biodiversity and the nature.As the underlying logic connecting the fates of all species in the nature is fundamentally the same,Eco-translatology,as a translation theory,requires translators to pay attention to the ecological environment,translation communities,and living conditions.Currently,relatively few studies or interpreting practices in China that adopt Ecotranslatology to television simultaneous interpretating have been made,and even less research relating to interviews with public figures or basketball-related television interpretation has been done.Basketball in China enjoys a massive popularity,and Kobe Bryant is not only a superstar basketball player in the Hall of Fame but also an idol in the hearts of millions of Chinese basketball fans.Thus,in this report the author will simulate the interpretation of a television interview primarily discussing Kobe Bryant’s career and personal growth as the source text to enrich relevant research and pay tribute to the author’s spiritual mentor Kobe and the "Mamba Mentality."This report adopts Eco-translatology as the theoretical framework,firstly introducing an overview of Eco-translatology theory,research and application,and its three essential concepts.It then analyzes the "translation community" and "ecological environment" faced by translators before selecting typical interpretation examples for discussion from the linguistic,cultural,and communicative dimensions.Secondly,the report explores how the "three-dimensional transformation" can be combined with television simultaneous interpretation,aiming to provide a reference for relevant interpretation practices.
