This is a practical report on simulated English-Chinese simultaneous interpretation, hereinafter,SI for short. An interview of Hudson Institute “Spain and the Situation in Catalonia: A Conversation with Spanish Ambassador Pedro Morenés” was chosen as a source speech for this practice. At the same time, based on this interview, the interpreter finds countermeasures to solve the misinterpretation and information loss caused by the poor understanding for lack of background information and clumsily structured utterances.Meanwhile, the interpreter also improves the level of self-interpretation through the practice.Hudson interview is a routine talk shot by the Hudson Institute, which invites experts to analyse the current hot issues around the world. The prominent characteristic of this interview is that the first language of interviewee is Spanish, however, during the whole process, they both speak English. So the interviewee inevitably has some mistakes or omissions in understanding and answering questions. With the implementation of “The Belt and Road”,conversion of multilingual languages becomes a hot trend. As the universal language,English,is widely used in communication, taking into the differences in personal mother tongue, this situation poses a greater challenge to the interpreter, while,it also has aroused the author's interests. So this report focuses on the misinterpretation and information loss caused by the inadequate understanding for lack of background information and clumsily structured utterances. With the help of the Effort Mode Theory, the interpreter analyses the problems in this practice and provides some solutions. The simulated SI of this interview enhances the interpreter's interpretation abilities. However,as this thesis is based on a simulated SI circumstance, the simulation is inevitably different from the actual situation. And to some extent, the related analysis has its limitations. However, the interpreter still hopes the corresponding countermeasures proposed in this report will be benefit to those who will be confused by the same problems in their interpreting tasks.
