As a space for daily activities, the study room has a close connection with the life of the ancients. In the Ming and Qing dynasty vernacular novels, the study room appears more frequently than other places, which shows that the study room plays a role in the narrative of the novel that cannot be ignored. This paper takes the study room in the Ming and Qing dynasty vernacular novels as the research object, and attempts to systematically and deeply discuss its image characteristics, cultural connotations, narrative forms and narrative functions in a broad cultural background. The paper is divided into two parts.Chapters 1 to 3 are the first parts, which generally discuss the historical process of the occurrence, development and evolution of the narrative of the study space, and on this basis, explore the form and function of the narrative of the study space in the Ming and Qing dynasty vernacular novels. The first chapter sorts out the study architecture in ancient China from the perspective of architectural history and outlines the development of study rooms. From the pre-Qin Dynasty to the Ming and Qing dynasties, the study room has gradually diversified its functions from the initial private school to the private reading and writing space to the hospitality and college education place. The study building has a distinct cultural connotation, which lays the material foundation for the narrative of the study space. The second chapter explores the use of metaphors, line drawings, and antithesis in Ming and Qing vernacular novels to narrate the study space; The third chapter explores the narrative function of the study in Ming and Qing novels from the perspective of narratology, and generally unfolds from four aspects: plot structure, narrative time and space, scene atmosphere, and character image.Firstly, the role of the narrative of the study room in the Ming and Qing dynasty novels on the series plot is analyzed,so as to promote the development process of the novel.Secondly, the role of the narrative of the study space in the novels of the Ming and Qing dynasties on the transformation of the time and space of the text is discussed, that is,the real space as the study room and the surreal space events that occur in the study room are blended with each other,so as to show the unique literary value.Again, the important role of study narrative in scene creation is discussed, that is,highlighting the novel space and rendering the environmental atmosphere; Finally, the significance of study space in shaping the image of characters is discussed.Chapters 4 to 6 are the following parts, which focus on related cases and provide a detailed analysis of Ming and Qing vernacular novels from the perspective of study space narrative. The fourth chapter takes Jin Pingmei as the analysis object, focusing on exploring the synchronous connection between the textual space of the study and the political and psychological space of the characters, and analyzing the study space in the illustration from the perspective of narrative.Chapter 5 takes the study space as the starting point and focuses on the role of the study room in the arrangement of character activities and the portrayal of characters in "Dream of Red Mansions"(especially the study rooms of Jia Zheng,Jia Lian and others, which have been ignored in the past).Chapter 6 focuses on the narrative of the study room in the imperial examination novels Divergent Street Lamp and The History of Rulin, believing that the study room,as a marker of spatial change, reflects the psychological world of the characters in a timely manner, witnesses the fall and awakening of the protagonist, and the study becomes an excellent basis for satirizing hypocritical scholars.
