Deep forests are dense forests that are widely distributed in various regions of China,both as natural scenery that can be seen everywhere and closely related to people’s lives.Therefore,in ancient Chinese literature,deep forests have always been the object of keen attention by scholars,especially in the field of fiction.Through careful construction,novelists have created "deep forest" scenes into spaces with unique spatial characteristics and aesthetic connotations,It not only plays an important role in novel narration,but also profoundly reflects some traditional Chinese culture.In view of this,this article takes the “Deep Forest and other Land”narrative in popular novels of the Ming and Qing dynasties as the research object,focusing on those carefully described“Deep Forest and other Land”by the author,analyzing their types,exploring the significance of narratology,and exploring the spatial characteristics and hidden cultural connotations therein.The introduction section introduces the writing reason,research status,and related concepts of this topic.The text consists of four chapters:The first chapter traces the origin of“ Deep Forest and other Land” narrative.The writing of deep forest in Chinese literature has a long history and continues,but there are differences between lyrical and narrative texts.Sorting out the characteristics of Deep Forest’s writing in different periods and styles will help us understand the comprehensiveness and profundity of“Deep Forest and other Land”narrative in popular novels of the Ming and Qing dynasties.The second chapter classifies “Deep Forest and other Land” narration in popular novels of the Ming and Qing dynasties.In popular novels of the Ming and Qing dynasties,there are many “Deep Forest and other Land” with complex content.Only by properly classifying them can we analyze the narrative significance behind them,thereby revealing the spatial characteristics and cultural implications.According to the narrative characters and plots of “Deep Forest and other Land” this article classifies “Deep Forest and other Land” in popular novels of the Ming and Qing dynasties into three categories: cultivation and encounter with immortals,distress,and attack.The third chapter analyzes the role of “Deep Forest and other Land”in popular novels of the Ming and Qing dynasties from the perspective of narratology.In terms of creating character images,the closeness of“Deep Forest and other Land”enables novel characters to demonstrate a more authentic self.Whether it is the piety of seeking immortality or the courage and fearlessness in times of distress,the characterization will be more profound.In promoting the plot of the story,“Deep Forest and other Land ”can be used as the driving force for generating the story and the key point for causing the story to turn.In terms of rendering the spatial atmosphere,“Deep Forest and other Land” can create different atmospheres with different types of stories,displaying nervousness and terror when the characters encounter danger,and displaying tranquility and peace when the characters encounter immortals.In terms of deepening the theme of the story,“Deep Forest and other Land ”can not only set unique storylines to make the story fuller,but also be built into a special space like the Peach Blossom Land to reflect the author’s thoughts,thereby deepening the theme of the story.The fourth chapter examines the spatial characteristics of“Deep Forest and other Land ”from a spatial perspective,and explores the cultural implications behind them.Firstly,“Deep Forest and other Land ”is divided into fairy fantasy space,dangerous space,and secluded space.fairy fantasy space inherits the thought of Taoism mountain forest fairyland since the Eastern Han Dynasty,displaying surrealism in both the space and the storyline of entering and exiting the space;The sinister space harbors bandits in the gather mountain Forest,giving people a dark and terrifying impression,filled with violence and danger.Its emergence originated from the vagrant groups with nowhere to defend in society since the Song Dynasty;The active hermit groups of past dynasties preferred to retreat into the deep forest,forming a secluded space in the deep forest,and their unique scholar interest also made them a different existence in the“Deep Forest and other Land”.
