Disease is an unavoidable life experience, everyone will experience disease sooner or later, and even for some people,a certain disease may accompany them for life and become a normal life.Illness will bring both physical and mental torment to the patient. In the face of disease, people will feel anxiety, fear, disgust, hatred, low self-esteem and helplessness. With the continuous deepening of people’s cognitive experience of the world, disease is no longer just a physiological experience in the biological sense, nor is it only a category of medical attention,it has been endowed with more cultural connotations.Naturally, disease has also become the object of literary writing. As a kind of evil disease, leprosy has a long history in our country.Because of its unknown cause, incurable and highly contagious, leprosy is endowed with a mysterious color, and it will cause social collective panic and cause leprosy.People’s negative associations in ethics and religion make leprosy a metaphor.Especially in the Ming and Qing dynasties, novels were highly prosperous, and leprosy also appeared in the novel texts in large numbers, and assumed important functions in character shaping and plot construction, with strong metaphorical colors. In addition to the introduction, this article is divided into four parts:The first chapter mainly sorts out the development process of the leprosy narrative. With the development of the novel style itself, the form of the leprosy narrative has become more and more flexible, and the artistic taste has become higher and higher, especially with the structure of characters and other structures. The second chapter focuses on the role of the narration of leprosy in Ming and Qing novels in character building. In the narrative of leprosy, the relationship of "disease-patient-environment" profoundly affects the characters’ cognition of the disease and the actions taken to adapt to the environment, thus triggering a series of plots.Based on this, this chapter focuses on the patient image, the environment image, and the marginal image. The third chapter focuses on the role of the narrative of leprosy in Ming and Qing novels in plot creation.Specifically discuss the functions of leprosy in important nodes such as plot generation, turning, and extension. The fourth chapter focuses on the metaphorical function of the leprosy narrative. One is the narrative of leprosy and the cultural metaphor of gender. It focuses on examining the discrimination against women in the "leprosy" narration and the custom of "excessive leprosy";the second is the leprosy narration and the metaphor of Neo-Confucianism.It focuses on examining the Confucian ethics conveyed in the narrative of leprosy,as well as the maintenance and calling of traditional moral concepts by real authors.
