Improving students’ ability to solve complex problems in the real world requires interdisciplinary knowledge and methods.The Compulsory Education Curriculum Program(2022 edition)states that “interdisciplinary thematic learning activities should be established to strengthen the interconnectedness of disciplines and drive the integrated implementation of the curriculum” and that “in principle,at least 10% of the class time of each course should be devoted to interdisciplinary thematic learning”.As a language course,English is rich in social production and life content,and this special characteristic determines that it has a natural connection with various subjects.At present,the elementary school in China is still dominated by sub-disciplinary teaching,and English teaching is more concerned with the learning of students’ English language knowledge and the improvement of their performance.Teachers do not know much about interdisciplinary theme teaching,even though some teachers have carried out interdisciplinary theme teaching in elementary school English,there are still many problems in the specific teaching practice due to the lack of deep theoretical understanding.Therefore,it has certain practical significance and value to explore the interdisciplinary theme teaching of English in elementary schools.Based on the survey of interdisciplinary theme teaching in elementary school English,this study follows the teaching design idea of “determining the central theme-designing the integrated structure-planning teaching activities-deciding the evaluation method-verifying the teaching design”,with the theme of “Healthy Diet”and the integration of subjects,I designed and implemented an interdisciplinary theme-based teaching of English in elementary school.And then through a combination of qualitative and quantitative methods,such as questionnaires,interviews,work analysis and classroom observation,students’ experiences and feelings about the interdisciplinary theme teaching of English in elementary schools were understood in three dimensions: knowledge learning,activity participation and learning experience.Through students’ feedback and teachers’ observation and reflection,the author learned that students have positive and affirmative attitudes toward interdisciplinary theme teaching in primary English,and further discovered the problems in the process of teaching design and practice.Based on this,the author proposes relevant teaching strategies according to the current situation and practice:(1)Create real situations and enrich teaching activities;(2)Explore subject resources and focus on knowledge transfer;(3)Focus on the combination of learning and thinking and grasp the orientation of education;(4)Design integrated homework and solve practical problems;(5)Implement diverse evaluation and actively give feedback for improvement. |
